CURBING
Sealing your new curbs:
-
All stamped concrete requires sealant to be applied as a maintenance item. Sealant protects the colour from damage caused by the sun and moisture. Concrete sealer will also protect from salt and keep the curb clean.
-
When we install a curb, we use a “cure and seal” product that protects the curb finish for 6 months to a year. It is not possible to apply a glossy finish until the concrete cures for a week or two. Cure and seal is really just a primer coat of sealant, used on new wet concrete. Note that our one-day installation saves you money by eliminating a return trip for subsequent layers of sealant. It is up to you to build up the second and third layers of a sealer. Your curb will look much better with two or more coats giving it that glossy shine. We do offer this service for a minimal fee.
-
You can do it yourself! You can apply your sealer with either a brush or with a sprayer. The new sealers dry quickly and should be applied at temperatures between 17-25 degrees. It is best applied in the morning or evening on dry days. You can use a disposable brush and should work quickly. Two light coats are preferable to one heavy coat. We recommend you purchase your sealer from a concrete store, but you can pick yours up wherever you find your best deal. We purchase ours fromNational Concrete, and highly recommend it. It is called "701 Premium High Gloss Acrylic Sealer". You will need about 4 Liters per 100 feet of curbing to do two coats. Low gloss is sometimes referred to as 20% and high gloss as 25% or 30% solids,
-
How will you know when to re-seal? New curbing can be resealed anytime after one or two weeks up to the onset of colder temperatures. On older curbs, if you notice speckling where release is coming off the surface, we recommend an application or two of sealant.
Our gaurantee:
At B&B CURBING, our reputation is important to us. We want you to be completely satisfied.
We will guarantee our curbs against defective materials and workmanship. We guarantee against rain, hail and frost damage incurred the day of installation. We DO NOT guarantee against footprints or other damage caused by the owner or third parties during the early curing stage. All concrete is subject to random cracks, and like sidewalks, occasional cracks are normal in curbing due to shrinkage and settling during curing. The curb is designed to crack at some of the control joints that have been placed for this purpose. If there are an unusual number of cracks or spalling, we will work hard to address your concerns in a professional and courteous manner. If we deem a section of curb needs replacing, a colour match is not a guarantee, as concrete colours are dependent on many factors, most beyond our control. We have done many, many jobs in your area, and have never failed to address any realistic concerns. Just call if there is a problem!
Care:
Following these basic care instructions that have been given to you, should result in a beautiful and lasting curb for years to come. We would like to thank you for your business. If we can offer you any additional services, don’t hesitate to call.
